A Tea Addict's Journal

An old new acquisition

Shopping at old teashops in Hong Kong is always fun.  You find things unexpected, like this one

What is it, you may ask?  The date says 1978, April 27th.  Sadly, it’s not old tea, but nevertheless, it’s well worth the money — it’s a tea tray.

It’s brand spanking new, but old at the same time, especially since these are no longer made and so are quite hard to find in good condition, never mind a brand new one.  Most old shops have one or two that they use regularly, but no more.  This is a smaller one, big enough for four cups and a shuiping, but not a lot of room left after that.  I’ve always wanted one of these, and now have found one.  Too bad there’s a one-per-customer limit, because otherwise I’ll buy them all.

    Hello M.,
    Thanks for the updates.
I just dove into the care package. Thank you very much. Of course it was the “powder coated” pu that got awakened first. Lovely tea. Am saving the 2nd half of the sample for Sherab in Columbus.

Looking forward to the other goodies. You will have a little package for your return. Thanks again for your thoughtfulness. Have a great trip!

    Best,
    H.

    Loving this one, of course.

    Hi,
I MUST have one of these (same size) you said in your post “one-per-customer limit” so they must still have more. Can you provide a website for them, or an address? I am in Australia.

I’m afraid it’s not so simple — they don’t have a website, and will only sell one of these if you happen to be buying lots of tea from them. It took a fair amount of sweet talking for me to get this one.

Wow, this tray is probably born the same day I was, since it was manufactured in Asia, whereas I am the product of the US.
Not a tea-related observation, but just a minor eureka moment!
