8:45 am, and I’ll be in a dentist’s office getting my wisdom teeth pulled. Thankfully, it’s just one. But one or four, the result is the same — no hot tea for a few days.

So I guess I’ll have to give my very poor ice tea making skills a shot. Maybe some green? Oolong? What makes the best iced tea? How do you make them? Suggestions?

  1. A light green steeped/brewed with a few sprigs of fresh mint (I prefer lemon mint). Let it cool. Very crisp and calming.
    If you really feel adventurous, chuck in a source of capsaicin to give the tea a tang. 1/4 teaspoon of, say red pepper flakes per 16 ounces of tea. Odd, but interesting.
    Or. You could always stretch yourself and infuse a tea of your choice into condensed milk and make an ice cream. Food Network’s website has some golden ice cream recipes- look for anything concocted by Alton Brown. He is a god in the kitchen.

  2. i’ve had greens iced simply by putting some leaf in a jug with water and leaving in the fridge overnight. no need to heat it, apparently–and it’s quite decent and refreshing. unfortunately, i have no idea re: appropriate amount of leaf for such a venture.

Alright, I’m probably going to embarass myself by airing my plebeian tastes (yet again) with this suggestion, but I personally am a big fan of iced jasmine tea, slightly sweetened with brown sugar, with or without milk. The important thing is to brew it strong, but not let the leaves stew for too long.

    Regardless, hope you feel better! To not be able to drink tea, surely a fate worse than death. Or dentistry.

  4. Be like a tourist…you deserve it after getting your wisdom tooth pulled out.  Drink lychee red tea, iced.  Brew it like any other red teas…pour it in a glassfull of ice, and voila!

    Don’t forget to tuck your shirt in before going to the dentist.  🙂

  5. Yeah, I’ve been told to brew the leaves with water in a jug and leave it in the fridge overnight. I might try that for tomorrow.

  6. You might try jasmine tea with some honey, cooled to 4C in the fridge. Not the kind of tea that you would normally drink, I expect, but it’s still pretty good.
